Distilled Wisdom

Welcome to the Distilled Wisdom of 'Secrets of the Millionaire Mind'

On the surface you may think this book will just be a another useless personal guide on how to get rich but the reality is far from it. Secrets of the Millionaire Mind focuses entirely on how 'the way you think and feel about money' affects your ability to get rich.

Secrets of the Millionaire Mind is a book about how different people think about money; in particular, what is it about your unconscious money beliefs that may help or hinder your ability to attract wealth into your life.

The author of Secrets of the Millionaire Mind is "T. Harv Eker" and he does admit to highly generalising throughout the book but don't let that put you off, this book definitely contains some insights that may just provide you a few AH-HA moments.

The structure of the Secrets of the Millionaire Mind book is split into 2 sections; the first covers the concept of your 'Money Blueprint', and the second examines a collection of ways in which Rich people think and act differently from other people (this section does indeed generalise!).

This Distilled Wisdom series examines and extracts some of the core lessons and big ideas so that you can apply them to your life. Please consider the information presented and then adapt it and apply it in ways that work best for you.

Your Money Blueprint

It's not enough to be in the right place at the right time. You have to be the right person in the right place at the right time.
T. Harv Eker

The majority of personal growth literature is formed on the simple premise that your external experience of life is just a reflection of your inner world. Harv Eker uses this as the basis for the creation of your 'Money Blueprint'. Everybody develops beliefs, habits and conditioned responses to the world around them and it is this conditioning about money that forms an individuals 'Money Blueprint'.

Where did this conditioning come from?

The primary source for this conditioning is your parents, siblings, friends, authority figures, religious leaders and the media. It could be something you watched, heard or experienced emotionally; but most of this conditioning happens when you are young and most easily influenced. Can you remember the types of things your parents would say about money?

The one I remember most is - Money doesn't grow on trees!

So you see that your money blueprint is simply a collection of unconscious thoughts that you have about money, it is this internally programmed response to money that Harv Eker suggests can control the financial limits you are capable of achieving.

This simple formula sums this up nicely.

Programming  > Thoughts > Feelings > Action  =  Result

Your conditioned programming influences your thoughts; your thoughts influence how you feel; your thoughts and feelings influence your actions; and your actions generate some type of result.

So now you can see that if becoming rich is just a result created from the combination of inner thoughts and outer actions, the first place to start in changing your ability to get rich is by changing your programming.

So how do we discover the unconscious conditioning that is holding us back? and how do we make a change?

It simply begins with becoming more consciously aware of the choices you make and the actions you take.

So consider this process....

  1. What ever it is that is limiting you may be a result of your past.
  2. You need to become more aware of this part of the past and understand how it is limiting you
  3. Next you need to be willing to dissociate from it and declare a new positive response using affirmations

17 ways that rich people think and act differently from everyone else

The second section of 'Secrets of the Millionaire Mind' examines a set of thinking patterns that Rich people are likely adopt. Although this is greatly generalised there are some big ideas that can give you some insight  to the personal areas you might want to build upon.

  1. Rich people believe: "I create my life". Poor people believe: "Life happens to me".
  2. Rich people play the money game to win. Poor people play the money game to not lose.
  3. Rich people are committed to being rich. Poor people want to be rich.
  4. Rich people think big. Poor people think small.
  5. Rich people focus on opportunities. Poor people focus on obstacles.
  6. Rich people admire other rich and successful people. Poor people resent rich and successful people.
  7. Rich people associate with positive, successful people. Poor people associate with negative or unsuccessful people.
  8. Rich people are willing to promote themselves and their value. Poor people think negatively about selling and promotion.
  9. Rich people are bigger than their problems. Poor people are smaller than their problems.
  10. Rich people are excellent receivers. Poor people are poor receivers.
  11. Rich people choose to get paid based on results. Poor people choose to get paid based on time.
  12. Rich people think "both". Poor people think "either/or".
  13. Rich people focus on their net worth. Poor people focus on their working income.
  14. Rich people manage their money well. Poor people mismanage their money well.
  15. Rich people have their money work hard for them. Poor people work hard for their money.
  16. Rich people act in spite of fear. Poor people let fear stop them.
  17. Rich people constantly learn and grow. Poor people think they already know.

So what are they key ideas from these 17 principles?

Everyone is different but if I had to pick the top 5 it would be:

  1. Accept 100% responsibility for your present situation, that means stop blaming others for apparent failures and stop looking for and complaining about what is not right.
This is very important. All successful people accept that they are responsible and in control of their life. People who are unhappy are often found complaining how its not their fault and how it is something outside of them that prevents them from doing something.

  2. Be 100% committed to do whatever it takes to get what you want, and make sure you know exactly what you want otherwise how else will you know how to get it!

  3. Focus on Opportunity - contemplate the famous saying 'what you focus on expands', and ask yourself, what do you focus on most of the time? I bet whatever it is you get more of.

  4. Act in spite of fear - If you take anything from this Distilled Wisdom take this. Harv Eker believes that successful people act in spite of their fear. They just do it anyway (even though they may not know what they are doing), learning as they go. Unsuccessful people do nothing at all.

  5. Admire that which you want, don't resent it!
Resentment is a negative thought and creates negative feelings, this actually holds you back from that which you want (remember what you focus on expands). Instead admire the rich and focus on how you'll feel when you live that lifestyle, this positive vibration will move you towards your goals and you'll feel great at the same time.
